Στην Αίγυπτο, υπάρχουν πολλές διαφορετικές κοινωνικές τάξεις ομοφυλόφιλων. Κάποιοι από αυτούς ανήκουν σε ανώτερες τάξεις, είναι μορφωμένοι και έχουν εργασία. Κάποιοι άλλοι ανήκουν σε κατώτερες τάξεις. Δεν είναι η πλειοψηφία, απλά φαίνονται πιο πολύ καθώς, συνήθως, κάνουν πιάτσα στο δρόμο. Οι συνειδητοποιημένοι γκέι που ανήκουν σε αυτό που λέμε «γκέι σκηνή» δεν συχνάζουν στις πιάτσες. Γενικά, όλοι οι γκέι φοβούνται την αστυνομία και δεν νιώθουν ποτέ ασφαλείς όταν κάνουν μια καινούρια γνωριμία. Πρέπει να προσέχουμε πολύ, όλοι μας. Η κοινότητα των ετεροφυλόφιλων δεν αποδέχεται και δεν καταλαβαίνει ΚΑΘΟΛΟΥ τι σημαίνει να είσαι ομοφυλόφιλος.

Κάποια στιγμή γνώρισα έναν τύπο και συναντηθήκαμε άλλες τρεις φορές. Την τρίτη φορά μου την είχε στημένη. Μου έκλεψε το κινητό και ο φίλος του με απείλησε ότι θα με μαχαιρώσει!

Επειδή οι γκέι δεν έχουμε κατοχυρωμένα δικαιώματα, πολλοί εκμεταλλεύονται την κατάστασης και μας κλέβουν. Δεν μπορούμε να τους αναφέρουμε στην αστυνομία, γιατί απλά είμαστε γκέι. Γνωρίζω κάποιον γκέι που δολοφονήθηκε σε ηλικία 23 χρονών, το όνομα του ήταν «S.». Το περιστατικό έγινε πριν από 3 μήνες και οι εφημερίδες δεν ανέφεραν την αλήθεια για τα αίτια του θανάτου του. Κανένας δεν νοιάστηκε ούτως ή άλλως.

Λένε ότι η άδικη μεταχείριση που τυχαίνουν οι γκέι στις Αιγυπτιακές φυλακές έχει μειωθεί, αλλά δεν το πιστεύω. Οι πολιτικές της χώρας στο θέμα αυτό είναι κάκιστες και τα πράγματα χειροτερεύουν, ιδιαίτερα οι άρχουσες τάξεις. Όλα φαίνονται ότι πηγαίνουν προς το καλύτερο στην επιφάνεια, αλλά στην ουσία η δημοκρατία και η ελευθερία της έκφρασης δεν έχουν κατακτηθεί ακόμα και η κατάσταση χειροτερεύει!

3rd Athens International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival 25-31/5/2009,την παραπάνω ταινία και εξοργίστηκα με την κατάσταση των ΛΟΑΔ στην Αίγυπτο και αποφάσισα να ρωτήσω τους γκέι εκεί να μου πουν αν είναι τόσο χάλια τα πράγματα εκεί όσο φαίνονται να είναι στην ταινία. Οι απαντήσεις που πήρα ποικίλουν και σας τις παραθέτω. Τους απάντησα πως θα ήθελα να βοηθήσω δημοσιοποιώντας τις ιστορίες τους στο περιοδικό του ανθρωπιστικού κινήματος www.avmag.gr και περιμένω απαντήσεις. Θα αρχίσω να το κάνω και με άλλες χώρες που καταπατούνται τα ΛΟΑΔ δικαιώματα. Αν τα κράτη αυτά έχουν κολλήματα θα τα κάνουμε εμείς να τα ξεπεράσουν. Αρκετά.

i think most of the gays here just want to move out to somewhere else where they could live their lives, it is difficult here iam sure,but slowly i started to be unaware of what has been going on!

well i cant meeet ppl normally only through here also it is very rare as ppl do not trust if i m police or myself do not trust them too

I want to say that It is not true a tiny bit , Gay arrests in Egypt stopped a while ago and simply we witnessed few gay marriages that got published in the newspapers few years ago like the very famous one : in Samiramis hotel and the pictures were published [ it was the marriage of two lesbian women ] and the other one held in Hurghada and again got published in the newspapers and simply my boyfriend is from greece and when he was here with me few months ago he told me that he - as a gay guy - can be even more free here than in Europe so I don't really believe that it is terrible at alll - being gay - in egypt btw there is a very famous gay-friendly pub in Alexandria [ the city that I live in ] and I went there with lots n lots of my european friends all of them were surprised at how gay-friendly this place is , we have no single line in the Egyptian constitution about Improsining someone because he is gay so now tell me Why is it dangerous to be gay in Egypt : ) ? By the way if you got msn to talk more about it , I won't mind it I'd love to show someone the truth of being gay in egypt

well hey there
actually u are my life is a non egyptian movie to start with yeah its true some shots where taken here in egypt but most actors were morroccans
to start with i didnt see the whole movie ive seen some scenes from it am sure it does reflect part of the gay life in here
its true some people suffer but after all its not only cuz yr gay there are many other factors as level of education socio economic standards
its true we dont have gay bars or a monthly pride yet i belive we can have a balanced fun life here in egypt
arrests so far have stopped and thats the best part
probably we dont have any official gay spots but dont get shocked if u know there are weekly orgies going on allover cairo and tonz of gay parties !
so i belive ppl here are having fun nothing official but its still going on
ne ways wish u all the luck stavros in yr mission

First of all I'd like to tell you that u r hot n cute

Second, thanks for ur interest in the gay life in Egypt . I haven't seen the movie you entioned , however gay life here is awful. No one can even tell that he's gay .

As I told you , I haven't seen the movie , so I can't tell what are the " dangerous" stuff u r speaking about. But gays here could be arrested if they were caught in sexual act . Cos it's illegal .

However , u should know that people here can manage living their lives as gays , they meet, have sex, some people have gay parties but things should be kept discrete . Nothing comes to public .

Here, it's legally, religiously and socially rejected and forbidden to be gay. So I don't think any help in this domain will help. therefore, under any circumstances gays here will never have the ability to express their feelings publicly, have gay prides , clubs or get married( gay rights of concern). No way.

Neither the government , nor the public will accept this ! It woiuld be a massacre - I think - if gays asked for such rights.
I personally think that gays can enjoy their lives as they like without much public attention , as it's of no importance.

hey Stavros

thank you very much for your care, i know the movie but i could not see it because it is not allowed to be watch in egypt i only saw few min of it was puplished on the internet so i can not tell if the movie shows the real gay life in egypt or not
all what i can tell u is as a gay u r not allowed to be open unless if u were among gay friends which is very difficult to have to egypt
but u can have dates and so even their is gay parties but u still have to hide things
i heard about secret police tack u and make fake dates with u then put u in jeal but never face any and i m not sure it is true
i won't say that the gay life in egypt is awfull i would say it is not free and not easy
but as i said the main problem is u can not have a gay friends may this is because men here do not fulfil their needs in sex so they keep looking for it every where and forget about other things (like friendship and so)

i m not sure if u can offer any help but who knows
was very nice to get contact with u
